With the aging baby boomer population, Medicare is playing an ever increasing role in paying for the healthcare of Americans. For a number of biologics, Medicare already covers >80% of utilization. As Congress and CMS adopt policies aimed at containing cost, drug, and medical device manufacturers need greater ability to model and forecast the impact of policy change on their market segment. At times, this will result in the need to present evidence to Congress and CMS with the goal of ameliorating the effects of those policies.
